Jerald A. Kessler, J.D.
Jerald Kessler is a full-time, professional mediator. He has over 25 years of mediation experience having mediated over 2,000 disputes. Mr. Kessler has mediated cases involving employment, civil rights, commercial disputes, intellectual property, land use, contracts, divorce, adult guardianships, partnership dissolutions, and family business disputes. His mediations are mainly in the Chicago metropolitan area, but he has also been retained to mediate cases in downstate Illinois, as well as in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. He mediates for individuals and businesses and has been recruited to mediate for various state and federal agencies. He has consulted for courts on the creation of court-annexed mediation programs and has provided continuing mediation trainings for their mediators.
Mr. Kessler has extensive mediation training, including numerous advanced mediation programs. He has presented at state and national mediation conferences and law conferences. Mr. Kessler has taught conflict resolution at the undergraduate, graduate and law school level. For over 20 years he has assisted in the training of new mediators and has mentored several mediators.
Mr. Kessler is a former president of the Mediation Council of Illinois, and is an Advanced Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution. He served as a delegate to the national conference that formulated the Model Standards of Practice for Divorce Mediation, adopted by the American Bar Association, and used for the drafting of the ABA’s Model Standards of Mediation.
Mr. Kessler received his B.A. (with Special Honors) and J.D. from the University of Chicago. He is a licensed Illinois attorney, and is certified as a mediator by the Circuit Court of Cook County and Lake County.
